History of Roanoke
The city of Roanoke, Texas is located in the heart of Denton County in the North Central Texas region. The first settlers to arrive in the area were from Kentucky and Tennessee. They came to the area in the early 1840s looking for a new place to call home. The community was first known as “Star City” because of the bright star that shone over the city at night. The name was later changed to Roanoke after the Virginia town where many of the settlers had come from.
The city grew slowly at first, but began to experience rapid growth in the late 1800s when the railroad came through. This brought new industry and jobs to the area, making it a thriving community.
